As a smart and sustainable campus, the Facens University Center understands that caring for the environment depends on the awareness of everyone who lives in this space. Therefore, we seek to educate our community and develop solutions that minimize and regenerate environmental degradation, enhancing human development and the well-being of our students and employees.
The Environmental Pillar consists of four areas of activity: Energy and climate change, Waste management, Sustainable use of water, and Nature, Ecosystems and Biodiversity. We act in a systemic way in each axis, with the adoption of sustainable practices on our campus, intending to build a more sustainable future for all. These themes mainly encompass SDGs 6, 7, 13, 14 and 15.
“The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it.”
-Robert Swan
At Facens, we believe that the role of a university is to act as a great tool for social transformation of the individual, personally and professionally, as well as of all stakeholders involved. We have a responsibility to develop people and professionals who understand the global context and contribute positively to society and the environment. Our social pillar is divided into four axes of action: Scholarship policies and facilitated access to education; Health and well-being; Social actions and partnerships; and Gender, race, and diversity equity. These themes encompass SDGs 1, 2, 3, 5, and 10.
"Education should not simply teach work-it should teach life.”
– W. E. B. Du Bois
The Facens University Center is committed to educating for the promotion of a sustainable future. This is reflected in several initiatives and programs that the institution has implemented. We include sustainability education in our undergraduate and graduate courses, offering specific disciplines on the subject and encouraging the incorporation of sustainable principles in students' projects. Moreover, we partner with local and national organizations to promote sustainability, such as environmental awareness projects and volunteer programs, which allow our students to contribute implementations of real solutions to society. Everything corroborates our goal of developing highly qualified professionals, with knowledge and skills to work on impactful projects and solutions, who are conscious citizens, and contribute to the development of a cleaner and greener economy. These themes encompass Sustainable Development Goals 4, 9, 11, and 17.
“Education saves and transforms lives, it is the foundation of all sustainability, which is why we must work together in all areas of development to make it a universal right.”
– Irina Bokova (Diretora-geral da UNESCO)
The economic pillar is essential to help create a strong and stable economy that ensures financial, social, and environmental benefits for current and future generations. It focuses on the efficient use of resources, setting up leadership with sustainable practices in all areas of the organization, creating job opportunities and local development. Moreover, it must always be linked to two other pillars for sustainability – social and environmental – because, together, they are essential to achieving a more balanced future for the entire population.
The Facens University Center is a non-profit association, which means that all profits are reinvested in the institution itself, allowing for an agile and constant evolution.
Our Economic Pillar is divided into four axes: Leadership, Student Admission and Retention, Employability and career opportunities, and Integration with the market. These themes include, mainly, SDGs 8, 12, and 16.
“Sustainability is a long-term competitive advantage, and companies that don't adopt sustainable practices will be left behind.”
-Mark Parker (former CEO of Nike)
