Sustainability Report 2023 / Sustainable Water Use & Nature, Ecosystems and Biodiversity

Sustainable Water Use & Biodiversity

Sorocaba occupies a strategic region in terms of water and biodiversity, allowing us to enjoy environmental services and ecosystem beauty, but it also brings significant responsibilities. Two tributaries of the Sorocaba River run through the Smart Campus® Facens, making their preservation both fundamental and challenging. Additionally, the city is located in an ecotone—a transition area between the Atlantic Forest and the Cerrado—housing rich biodiversity and unique endemic species that not only beautify the landscape but also express one of our fundamental values: life.

Participation in the River Basin Committee

Centro Universitário Facens is a member of the Sorocaba Médio Tietê River Basin Committee*, working alongside other organized civil society members in a participatory and collaborative manner to discuss and develop policies and practices for sustainable water resource management.

*"The River Basin Committees, entities of the National Water Resources Management System, constitute the 'Water Parliament,' a space where representatives of the basin community discuss and deliberate on water resource management, sharing management responsibilities with public authorities."
— ANA (National Water Agency)
