The Facens University Center, a reference in innovative educational methodologies in the areas of engineering, technology, architecture and health, once again occupied the 1st place in the UI GreenMetric 2024 international sustainability ranking among the country's private higher education institutions, and ranks 6th overall in Brazil, which also includes public universities.
One of the pillars that stood out among the award evaluations was the “Energy and Climate Change Axis”, in which Facens University Center ranked first in Brazil and sixth in Latin America. Vitor Belota, Head of Sustainability and Innovative Education at Facens, explains that 100% of the campus's energy is generated from renewable sources. "Two solar power plants installed in the space generate about 20% of the energy needed, and the remainder is purchased from certified decarbonized sources. This allows us to eliminate carbon emissions from electricity consumption. Our goal for 2028 is to reach net-zero carbon."
O GreenMetric UI is the world's first university ranking that measures institutions' commitment to sustainable development. The rankings consider six indicators for each educational institution: environment and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste, water, transportation, and education. For two consecutive years (2021 and 2022), Facens ranked first among private higher education institutions in Brazil and sixth in the overall national ranking. In 2023, it ranked among the 20% most sustainable universities in the world and ranked first in Brazil in energy and climate change.
