SUSTAINABILITY
Campaigns and Events
O Sustainability Committee and the Sustainability Department, with the support of Marketing and the partner advertising agency, carry out several events and awareness campaigns on topics connected to FACENS' sustainability pillars and 17 SDGs (UN Sustainable Goals). Events and campaigns are aimed at undergraduate and graduate students, professors, institution employees and the community in general.
The 1st SIPAT Facens event took place in September, and we promoted activities to raise awareness about waste disposal. In the "Zero Waste Know-It-All" event, participants tested their knowledge in a lively competition! In the "Zero Waste Solidarity" event, they contributed to the disposal of recyclables, generating increased revenue for CORESO and AAI. Thanks to employee engagement, 20 kg of recyclable materials were collected, including PET bottle caps, aluminum cans, and kitchen sponges, as well as over 15 liters of used cooking oil.
According to the nonprofit Instituto Lixo Zero, a group of 83 companies was responsible for properly disposing of 83,62 million tons of waste in 2023, preventing it from being sent to landfills or incinerated. Facens believes it can also be part of this change and is constantly working to improve its disposal processes and share information to change community behavior and culture. 🌿
We raise awareness in our community to avoid food waste, but when it is necessary to dispose of food, we advise that it be disposed of correctly: food scraps go in the Organics bin. Here at Facens, this waste becomes natural fertilizer in our compost bin and helps to take care of our gardens!
According to an article published by the Recicla Sampa portal, data from the latest Urban Solid Waste Management Diagnosis in Brazil shows that Brazil generates more than 80 million tons of garbage every year. The problem with the separation of solid waste is a concern in all spheres: in homes, schools, universities and companies, and the solution can be found not only in sharing information, but also in encouraging a change in attitude. Let's move towards Zero Waste! 👊
At Facens, the collected sponges and can tabs are sent to the Associação do Amor Inclusivo (AAI), an NGO that works in Sorocaba to promote the acceptance and inclusion of deaf people in society. Founded in 2017, AAI was born from the desire to make the world more accessible for everyone. By selling recyclable materials, they are able to increase their income to maintain their education and inclusion projects.
Taking advantage of the celebration of World Recycling Day, we produced awareness content for our InstaFacens profile and also carried out an action at SmartMall Facens aimed at raising awareness about correct disposal and the importance of Recycling.
We have several solid waste collection points spread throughout the campus and we understand that the collaboration of all students, employees and visitors is essential to ensure the correct disposal of materials, contributing significantly to the preservation of the environment, both on and off campus. We are constantly working to increase the volume of waste diverted from landfills and we count on everyone to work together towards zero waste!
UI GreenMetric, one of the world's leading university rankings that measures sustainability efforts, mainly focusing on the environmental pillar, recognized Facens as the most sustainable Private Higher Education Institution in Brazil in 2021 and 2022, and the 2nd most sustainable in 2023. Today we celebrate World Environment Day, a powerful reminder of the importance of taking care of our planet. Every action, no matter how small, can make a difference. Let's work together to protect biodiversity, conserve natural resources and adopt sustainable practices. The future of our planet is in our hands and at Facens we see SUSTAINABILITY as one of our strategic pillars!
At Facens, we combine theory and practice and provide students with real challenges and proximity to the demands of the market, society and the planet. From this, we create an educational ecosystem that inserts sustainability into everyone's daily lives through projects and actions, and with this we reap incredible results. Click and find out more!
Sustainability goes far beyond green spaces. At Facens, the Economic Pillar ensures a balance between business prosperity and a positive impact on society and the environment. Click on the image to learn more about the areas we prioritize within this pillar.
Facens was recognized in 2021 and 2022 as the most sustainable private higher education institution in Brazil! In accordance with the UN's 2030 Agenda, Facens structures its projects in this area around 4 essential pillars: environmental, economic, education and social. During the month of June, we presented in practice how these projects are applied, which have themes linked to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
* Strange that the bow is blue, isn't it? That's because some details are only perceptible to the naked eye, when we understand that self-care needs to be daily, when we are close friends with those who matter most, ourselves. Breast cancer prevention starts with touch, look, personal connection. Let this gesture change your life, choose to be safe.
Empresas do Bem is a movement created by Instituto Alexandre e Heloisa Beldi (IAHB) with the aim of promoting generosity within companies in the Sorocaba region, and engagement of its employees from an online platform that connects citizens to local social organizations that work in different socio-environmental causes. Here at FACENS we are part of this movement and we seek to encourage a culture of donation with our employees and the community.
In this campaign, we show all the projects that Facens already carries out in terms of sustainability on the fronts: social, environmental, economic and education for a sustainable future. In this way, we seek to generate information, awareness and reflection on the themes you are already working on here and encouraging more people to disseminate these projects in their daily lives, friends, family.
Historically, the month of August tends to be a month with less rainfall. Consequently, water reservoirs tend to decrease in volume and our mission is very clear: we need to save money! We held a webinar for our community on tips on how we can act sustainably and reuse water, avoiding waste.
The UI GreenMetric is the first ranking of universities in the world that measures the institution's commitment to sustainable development. The rankings consider 6 indicators for each college – environment and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste, water, transportation and education. In 2021, Facens ranked 1st among private higher education institutions and 5th overall in Brazil.
Since 2019, on the commemorative date of the 2030 agenda, we have carried out strong communication annually on the official channels of Facens, proposing to our audience a reflection on our role in the face of events and what we can do to change and multiply, raise awareness. The 2030 Agenda is an action plan for people, planet and prosperity that seeks to strengthen universal peace.
